Yuma Building, 1888, Downtown San Diego

The Yuma Building on 633 5th Ave. in Downtown San Diego was built by Captain Wilcox of Connecticut.  It was one of the first brick structures of the Italianate Baroque Revival era.  Captain Wilcox named the building Yuma because of his connections to Yuma, AZ.

On a historical note, the Yuma Building used to be a brothel in the early 1900s.  It was closed during the 1912 cleanup of the Red Light district.
